MENTORS AVAILABLE

The Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) offers a mentor program whereby those who are candidates to take the Certified Research Administrator (CRA) examination can be paired with a current CRA who will assist them in their preparation for the exam.  The role of the mentor is to provide general assistance to the candidate in their review of the body of knowledge.

 Mentors should be available to:

  • Offer suggestions for books, websites, manuals, articles, or other materials that the candidate may want to use to study for the exam
  • Talk with the candidate to help determine areas in the body of knowledge where the candidate may need more study and to suggest resources for assistance in those areas
  • Coach the candidate in examination preparation techniques
  • Be available to talk to the candidate and to offer encouragement when needed
  • Follow up with the candidate after the examination results have been published either to congratulate the new CRA or assist in identifying how the candidate can improve their results in a re-test for a successful certification.

The role of the mentor is to provide general assistance in the review of the body of knowledge with the candidate.  Mentors may not serve as either an Item Reviewer or an Examination Reviewer to ensure that no specifics about the contents of any examination are inadvertently revealed to candidates.

RACC suggests initial contact by e-mail for an individual who is located relatively near you just in case telephone contact becomes necessary.
