For a copy of the Handbook for Candidates and an application to take the CRA examination go to the website for our testing company, Professional Testing Corporation, http://www.ptcny.com/PTC/Clients.html and scroll to the very bottom of the page where you will can link to the Research Administrators Certification Council examination.

The best way to handle registration is to download the. PDF file containing the test information and follow the instructions, including filling out the registration form -- CAREFULLY -- as it is machine read!... and mail to the Professional Testing Corporation so that it reaches them no later than the deadline indicated on the application.

The exam will be offered at proctered testing centers over a two-week period.  You may take it, within reason, any time in the testing period. We recommend trying to get as early a date as possible, in case of an emergency need to postpone; there is a procedure for moving the time, noted in the handbook.  Because of this date spread, there will be no chance to change your test to a later testing period, nor any refund if the test is missed.

The fee to take the examination is $330.

 The test rules include:

 1.      No signaling devices, including pagers, cellular phones, and  alarms, may be operative during the examination.

 2.      Simple, non-programmable calculators are permitted. A calculator is also available on screen if needed.

 3.      No questions concerning content of the examination may be asked during the testing period.  The candidate should carefully read the directions that are provided on screen at the beginning of the examination session. (Proctors know absolutely nothing about the test!)

Also, there is a feature on the electronic test called tag, which lets you tag the questions you may want to want to go back to. Also, the program will tell you in the view function which questions are answered and unanswered.  There is a demo available on the www.lasergrade.com site (they provide the computerized testing sites to PTC) if you want to see how the computer exam will work.  A sheet of paper and a pencil will also be available for notes, but this paper needs to be turned in to the proctor so the candidate does not leave with any notes.

At the www.lasergrade.com web site you can get information regarding where some testing locations are located near you, but you can only get a firm location for taking the test by following the instructions in the brochure and telephoning LaserGrade AFTER you have your received an Eligibility Notice from PTC; then you may schedule your examination appointment.  Please be aware that LaserGrade contracts with PTC to administer tests for them (the CRA exam and many others), so there will be no information on the LaserGrade web site referencing RACC or the CRA exam.
